Endothelium

Endothelium in cardiology

Vascular endothelial cells are tested in the context of acute coronary syndromes (ACS) and related percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with stent implantation and applied pharmacotherapy. PCI opens clogged coronary arteries but, at the same time, damages the endothelial cell layer leading to pathological vessel remodeling called restenosis. Experiments were conducted in in vitro culture conditions, partially mimicking the in vivo environment. Additionally, sera taken from patients treated with PCI at different time points were also analyzed.

Endothelium – uremia and renal replacement therapy

The research concerns the impact of uremia and dialysis on endothelial cells from various parts of the vascular system. Different changes in the function of the venous and arterial endothelium in the conditions of uremia have been demonstrated. The process of hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis modifies the properties of vascular endothelial cells. Factors that may reduce unfavorable changes in endothelial cells in these conditions have been indicated.

Endothelium – peripheral blood vessels

The research was carried out on arterial and venous endothelial cells. The effect on the function of these cells was assessed by hyperglycemia, sera from patients with lower extremity venous disease or peripheral arterial disease. Factors that reduce the adverse effects of these factors on endothelial cells are indicated.
